Mompreneur Tale: Volume 2

It’s been a while since my last, an inaugural, Mompreneur Tale post. What I’m about to tell you happened a few weeks ago but it’s a great tale to tell, nonetheless.

Baby Girl, thankfully, is still little enough to be able to tag along with me to meetings sometimes. She’s content in her stroller and takes a bottle easily – this makes things easy when childcare plans don’t always pan out.

I had an afternoon of planned site visits with a mother-of-the-bride. Now, I’ll stop here for a moment. I always PREFER to be childless when meeting with clients for the sake of professionalism, no distractions, etc. But, in this case, I just didn’t have a choice. Plus, I’ve worked with this mother-of-the-bride before on her other daughter’s wedding a couple of years ago and she’s just wonderful. She loved having Baby Girl tag along.

I should also note that Baby Girl is to the point where she only poops once every 2-3 days. Furthermore, I can’t ever smell it and she doesn’t really have any typical “baby poop behavior” to alert me that a diaper change is in order LOL. Do you see where I’m going with this? Of course you do. I’ll continue…

Through 4 venues and car rides in between, Baby Girl stayed in her car seat and was just clicked in and out of her car base and stroller. I squeezed in a bottle feeding during this outing too. At the very end of our last site visit I decided to give her a little break from the car seat so I pick her up. Immediately, I felt it: poop blow out!!! It was on her shirt. It was on her pants. It was now on my arm.

Now I did what any professional woman would do in this scenario. I pretended the poop wasn’t there and I held her in a way that nobody could see the poop. So, while my client and the venue coordinator fawned over Baby Girl’s cuteness I was fiercely and speedily working out a plan in my head to get her back into her car seat without anybody seeing the poop all over her back side or the poop on my arm for that matter. Don’t ask me how I did it. I’m not even sure, if I’m being honest. But, somehow, I did it.

I finally ended up back at my car in the parking lot. My client was standing right there as we were discussing some details. I had no choice…Baby Girl needed a diaper change…BADLY!! I apologized to my client for having to do this but I was going to have to change this nasty diaper in front of her while we talk. She, of course, was just precious and totally understanding. After all, she is a mom herself ๐Ÿ™‚

This diaper, you guys!! Let’s just say I kept my cool but I was going through an obscene amount of baby wipes and I had to take off all her clothes. It was bad. Like, really bad! All the while, I’m talking caterers and color scheming over my shoulder with my client.

This was just…one of those days!

To top it all off, Baby Girl had to ride home in the buff. At least her pretty headband managed to not get any poop on it. At least there’s that.

This was a Mompreneur Tale for the books! I’m just thankful for wonderful clients who love having my babies around.

Behind the Scenes

This morning I made a post on social media showcasing my master multi-tasking capabilities. While the actual act of the said multi-tasking was real (submitting my company payroll report while simultaneously cooking Little Man’s breakfast), it dawned on me how misleading social media can be and how I am so guilty of posting things that make it look like I have it all together – things that make me appear to be some unicorn version of a wife/mom/business owner/domestic engineer who has every aspect of her life running so smoothly and according to plan. In reality, nothing could be farther from the truth.

So, here’s the ugly truth….

  • My office is a disaster area!! It’s been so messy for so long that I’m simply overwhelmed at the thought of cleaning/organizing it. So, I just ignore it instead and beg every guest in my home to just not look as they walk past.
  • I’m on week 3 of a consistent workout routine and it’s painfully obvious how out of shape I am. I have such a long way to go and I get easily discouraged because of that. I remember the days, sadly it was long before kids, when I was going to the gym 4+ times a week and having a blast doing spin classes, yoga classes and such. There’s no way I could make it 10 minutes in a spin class right now.
  • I drink too much diet coke.
  • My kitchen floors have not been cleaned since 2015. Gross!
  • I have no idea what I’m making for dinner tonight. 3 hours and counting to figure it out.
  • I’ve procrastinated on my 2016 revenue/expense reporting for my business. As in, I haven’t done any of it yet! I’ve got a long project ahead of me whenever I get the motivation and energy to tackle that.

…just to name a few.

I’m not perfect. I’m enormously imperfect.

My hope is always to be better in my business, at home, as a wife and as a mom. Every day is a new day to make the decision to try to be better. Some days I do better than others. As of this moment, my office is still a mess, I got my workout in, I drank too much diet coke for today, kitchen floors are still dirty, I’m about to make plans for dinner and the business accounting stuff is pushed to another day – so, today is just so-so.

Adventures in Organizing

I’m an organizing machine these days. I’ve tackled just about every major organization project I had on my list and OH MY GOODNESS have we purged A LOT of stuff over the past several weeks. In addition to purging, we’ve finally started taking advantage of our attic space that we rarely used before.

In the midst of all this cleaning, purging and organizing I’ve started to really take notice of ways to make my life more efficient. Being a busy mompreneur means I don’t have time to waste digging through a messy closet to find something or walking from one end of the house to another for the 47th time to get something. So, here’s some of my organization/home efficiency tips…

  1. Take advantage of every available space! Is there room under your bed to fit anything? Think storing vertically…not just horizontally! Think about utilizing backs of doors for additional storage or stacking storage bins.
  2. Speaking of…storage bins are a gift from Heaven above! They are affordable and declutter any space in an instant.
  3. Command hooks are a woman’s best friend! I hate hammering nails into the walls and even more so when The Husband is not home to help me. But I can manage a command hook all by myself and there’s no damage done to the walls in the process.
  4. Keep a stash of basic cleaning supplies stored in every bathroom and under the kitchen sink. This is something I’ve done for years now. Both of our bathrooms have clorox wipes, toilet bowl cleaner and a toilet brush on hand. This makes for quick and easy cleaning when you notice things are getting out of control. No running back and forth through the house to grab the cleaning products when you need to clean.

Now that the organizing is nearly done we are moving on to some deep cleaning projects. I hate deep cleaning. Hate. It.

Did I mention we are also in the midst of trying to complete Baby Girl’s nursery? When it rains, it pours.

Bueller? Bueller?

I’ve often used this throwback phrase around some younger friends. Many of whom look at me wide-eyed with confusion. Suddenly, I feel a million years old. But…I digress…

I’ve been an absentee blogger for the past few months. My sincere apologies! But let me catch you up. We survived a chaotic holiday season with lots of family visits, yummy food and Christmas gift excitement. This even included a horrid week where the entire household, starting with yours truly, caught a nasty bug. Lots of puking going on at our place for several days. I’ll tell you what, being pregnant and violently puking is no bueno.

I also completed my last wedding before Baby #2 gets here. It was on New Year’s Eve. It seemed appropriate to go out with a bang and we certainly did. It was a crazy long day (about 16 hours) made even more challenging by being 27 weeks pregnant. Let’s just say I had the worst wedding hangover I’ve ever had the next day. It was touch and go there for a while. Would I ever walk again? Only time would tell.

In other news, Baby #2 is still cooking away and we found out that IT’S A GIRL!!! This pregnancy has been completely different from Little Man in so many ways. Ways that have ultimately left me more exhausted, physically spent and mentally drained at the end of each day. I’m just very thankful that this time around the latter part of my pregnancy falls during slow season so I can really take it easy.

But, I never “take it easy”. LOL. Who has time for that? You see, with Little Man, I had zero time for “nesting” because I was in my busy season towards the end of my pregnancy and then he surprised us all by showing up 4 weeks early anyway. So, I think I’m making up for lost “nesting” this time around. I’m in full force people!

The Husband and I have decided that we will remain in our current 3 bedroom, 2 bath house for at least another year before we begin shopping for a larger home. Given the fact that we are already busting at the seams as it is with our little family of 3, I’ve been on a mad mission to make sure every nook and cranny of this house is purged, organized and as efficient as possible so that not a single shelf is wasted. I’m 29 weeks pregnant and I’ve tackled about 50% of the home organization projects I’m aiming to complete before Baby Girl gets here.

I’m really bad about taking before and after pics but I did snap these earlier this week when I spent 2 days purging and organizing our master closet. As has become practice in recent weeks, I stood and looked around at the disaster area (in this case, our master closet) and started brainstorming ideas to utilize the space better.

I’m a woman and I have purses. Many of them. I did get rid of a few but, many I really wanted to keep. But, I needed to find a better way to store them so that I could free up a VERY LARGE shelf to be used for other things. So, now every inch of wall space in our closet is being used for purse storage on command strip hangars. It looks so organized and pretty. And look at that glorious shelf that is just waiting to be used. It’s odd how good this feels!

There was further closet organization that happened after I snapped these pics so it looks even cleaner and better than this. But the purse storage beauty was worth showing I think.

Here’s some family love for you all to enjoy. Little Man was being very “mommy clingy” this night so there was no hope in getting him to look at the camera.

That’s all I’ve got for today. It’s way past this pregnant momma’s bedtime. I’ll be back soon. I promise.

Baby-Free Celebrating!!!!

A working mom really welcomes any excuse to enjoy some social activities without a baby in tow. So, this past weekend, I was able to attend a Bachelorette Party for a close friend. I’m also a bridesmaid in her wedding this coming weekend. I’m talking about nearly 24 hours of FREE time to get gussied up, eat dinner and socialize with girlfriends.

Oh, what a glorious time it was!!! Major props to The Husband for being on Little Man duty from 3pm on Saturday till 2pm on Sunday. These duties included getting up and headed to church on Sunday morning with Little Man in tow all by himself…no easy task!!

The Bachelorette Party festivities included all us girls wearing our favorite little black dress and a neon-colored wig for a night out on the town. Then an all-girl slumber party in a hotel suite downtown. And things wrapped up with a relaxing yoga session on Sunday morning before we all parted ways. *throw a couple of pumping sessions into the mix*

IMG_0877

The wigs definitely got us noticed wherever we went which made the evening so much more fun. We must have had over a dozen strangers request to take a picture with us!!

IMG_0881

Good times were had by all. But, Monday brought me back to reality as the workload hit. The Husband and I are both in the wedding this weekend and we are performing a song at the ceremony – lots to prepare and get ready for Saturday. I think a mani/pedi is in order ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then I have a wedding next weekend that I’m beginning to finalize details for. After my wedding on the 8th I have my longest break since my maternity leave. Just in time for Little Man’s first birthday….are you kidding me?!?!

World’s Okayest Mom

This is how I felt for the past 2 weeks. I’ve been so busy keeping up with clients that I felt like I was barely keeping up with motherhood. And forget about domestic responsibilities – thankfully The Husband managed several loads of laundry last weekend while I was working a big wedding.

Last week was so busy with drop-ins at the wedding venue that I was unable to plan them or estimate how long they’d take, thereby, planning for childcare was next to impossible. So, I deemed it simplest to just take Little Man along. The venue staff came to know me as the lady with the baby on her chest because I was wearing him in the Ergo for hours on end while I was there.

And, now that Little Man is officially mobile, he has limited interest in being confined to his playpen or the jumper while I’m working in the office. So, much of my time in the office last week looked like this…

FullSizeRender

This is what “Mom, I’m done bouncing up and down in the same spot…Okay, son, for the love, I just need to finish this email so sit here on the ground and play with some toys that are not age appropriate as long as it keeps you quiet for 2 more minutes!!” looks like.

I survived and this week is much less chaotic so I’m trying to earn back some momma points by getting in a lot more Momma + Little Man quality time.

For fun here’s a pic from my wedding last weekend. The groom is one of the coaches for the Philadelphia Eagles so the mascot partied with the guests at the reception. This picture was moments before Swoop entered the reception and surprised the guests! My job really IS fun even though it keeps my plate full!!
