Shame On Me…I Know!

It’s been entirely too long since I last posted. What can I say? Life just gets crazy sometimes. So crazy, in fact, that since my last post over a year ago documenting Little Man’s 2nd birthday party I both found out I was pregnant AND had said baby…that baby is now 4 months old. Our Muscle Man was a surprise at only 13.5 months younger than Baby Girl…YIKES! If you’re doing the math in your head then you are figuring out that that is 3 kids under 3 years old. Little Man just celebrated his 3rd birthday so it’s not technically 3 under 3 anymore but it was that way for 3.5 months.

Why the nickname Muscle Man? Well, that’s because he was not slight at birth. He was a whopping 10lbs 15oz. YIKES!! Yes it was a natural birth…not a c-section. However, my saving grace was that the labor was only 90 minutes and he was out in 3 pushes…praise the good Lord above!

I’ll get back in the groove of blogging regularly but for now I’ll catch you up with some pics….

Little Man Turns 2

I’m not one to get super emotional. And when it comes to my kids getting older, I may get sentimental, but overall I love watching them grow up, learn new things and discover the world.

I certainly can’t believe that Little Man is 2 years old but I’m thrilled nonetheless.

We celebrated his birthday this past weekend with a PJs and Pancakes party. This party theme was 3-fold…

  1. Little Man loves pancakes
  2. Wearing pjs means I don’t have to put near as much time and energy into my appearance for said party
  3. It was a breakfast party which meant it didn’t interfere with nap time. <—-winning

After his 1st birthday I swore I’d go simpler for future birthday parties. Well, that was a nice thought. It really was. But completely unattainable for this loves-to-be-the-hostess-party-planning momma.

I’m THAT Mom!

I had my first, very distinct, “I’m THAT mom!” experience. And, to be honest, I should have known better. I did know better. But I ignored my mom gut and did it anyway and paid the price.

I’ll paint you a picture…

It’s the Tuesday after a very long and busy July 4th weekend. We’ve been all over God’s green earth in the preceding 3 days visiting family, swimming, going to church, you name it. We’ve had late bedtimes, naps cut short and this is our first day back to normal. But we still have Noni and Grandpa in town for one last day so I opt to take myself along with both kids to lunch with Noni. What I knew was not smart was planning a late lunch. Little Man normally eats lunch at 11:30 and is down for his one LONG nap by Noon. But this lunch was planned for 12:15. <—gut check #1: IGNORED. He’s already operating on sleep deficit from the previous few days activities which included going to bed 2 hours late the night before and not sleeping in past his normal wake time at all <—gut check #2: IGNORED. Baby Girl normally eats around 11am and would normally be going down for a nap by 12:15/12:30 <—gut check #3: IGNORED. The Husband is back to work on this day so I’m flying solo <—gut check #4: IGNORED.

I’m sure you get the idea: this did NOT go well!!!

Halfway through his lunch (thankfully I had finished eating) it started. Commence: Epic Meltdown! He just lost it. I tried for a few minutes to get him to calm down but that effort was futile. I opted to take him outside and leave Baby Girl, who is perfectly content at the moment, in the restaurant with Noni and my sister (who also has her own infant, by the way). Little Man calmed down after a bit of walking outside, but, it was obvious, he was soooo tired. He was basically trying to drag me to the car in an effort to get home as fast as possible so he could sleep. Simply walking towards the restaurant entrance resulted in another meltdown but my other child and my purse were in there so I had to power through. LOL.

Upon getting inside I see my sister holding and bouncing my screaming/crying Baby Girl. Oy! And Little Man is still crying. Serenity now!

So, I approached the table and said “Ok, we’re done!”. I grabbed my purse and with some help from my sister and Noni I was out the door with 2 screaming children as quickly as I possibly could get there.

I can now confidently say that I’ve been both THAT mom and the patron at the next table in this type of scenario. And I can also confidently say that both of them suck. Yes I can relate to being the mom with screaming kids who just wants to eat her lunch. I can sympathize and I know other moms can agree on that. But, I also don’t want to ruin somebody else’s lunch. I’ve had my lunch ruined by screaming children before. So, we just left and it was the right choice.

Little Man came home and crashed for a solid 3.25 hours and he went to bed at 7:30 (bedtime) and fell right asleep!

Lesson learned: follow the Momma gut!! Always. Follow. The. Momma. Gut.

Live and learn! Live. And. Learn.

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Finding My Way Back…

I’ve been on “maternity leave” for almost 10 weeks now. I put the term maternity leave in quotations because being an entrepreneur doesn’t really grant you all of the perks that one might want or expect. Business has continued, thanks to my amazing team!! But, I still have to stay on top of the office stuff like payroll, emails, balancing the business account, etc. all while taking care of 2 kids under 2.

This weekend, I’ll be back to work at a wedding. While I’m not working the whole day because my staff has EVERYTHING covered, the few hours I’ll be on-site requires quite a bit of planning. Primarily, my extreme hatred of pumping means I’m working my hours around Baby Girl’s feeding times – thank goodness for an eating schedule that keeps me sane!!!!

So, I’ll pump once before I leave the house so The Husband will have a bottle to feed her while I’m gone and I’ll be back by the time she’s due to eat again. I’ll help with dinner and bedtime and then I’ll go back to the wedding to work a few hours during the reception.

Yes – I hate pumping! Although, I’ve somehow still ended up with over 600oz of pumped milk in my freezer. LOL

I’m really excited about this wedding. It’s a bride I’ve been working with for over a year. She and her mom were so gracious and understanding when I found out I was pregnant late last summer. My due date meant I would not be able to commit to being available for their wedding day and I’d have to hand off the planning torch to one of my staff to take over once baby came. They were so great about the whole arrangement and things have gone so well. My Associate Consultant, Whitney, has just killed it!!! So many fun things in store for this wedding and I’m so excited it’s going to work out for me to be there at least for the few hours that I can to see everything come together.

I’d like to dream more about this wedding at the moment but I can’t because Little Man is desperate to go play outside and I’ve got laundry to fold. How can I do both at the same time, you might say? Well, that’s because I have no shame folding my laundry on the driveway…underwear and all. Multitasking at it’s finest.

I also need to meal plan for the week and find time to get to the grocery store today. But that will have to come later…

Until next time Mommas 🙂

The Waiting Game

First and foremost, YES, I am still pregnant. 6 days from my due date and time is moving at a snail’s pace. But…I digress…

I’ve decided to try and find the joy in these last few days of Little Man being an only child. As exhausting as it is getting out and about, I’m trying to do special things with him daily: mommy and son dates, if you will 🙂 Plus, the more I can walk around and let gravity do it’s thing, the better!

IMG_1509

I took him to the aquarium for his first visit earlier this week. He wasn’t too enamored with anything in particular. I mainly just let him wander around at his own leisure and I followed closely behind. He was, albeit briefly, interested in the sharks OR it was simply the fact that I set his snack bowl on the tank ledge so that he’d have to walk over there to grab it. Regardless, I was certain to snap a picture.

We may be excited to welcome Baby Girl to the family but this Little Man will always be the one who made me a momma.

Here’s to the next chapter….

Until next time Mommas 🙂

This Just In…

The rumors you’ve heard are true. I can confirm that I am, indeed, STILL pregnant! Ugh! 38 weeks and more exhausted and the most uncomfortable I’ve been in my entire life.

For all my fellow Friends fanatics…this about sums it up….

You see, Little Man arrived at 36 weeks so I never got the pleasure of experiencing the last month of pregnancy that I had heard so many women complain about. Well, this time around, I’m in the thick of it. The complete 60-70%-effaced-and-1cm-dilated thick of it. Yes, that’s where my doc told me I was at may appointment 6 days ago. Let’s hope I’ve progressed a bit more when I go to the doc tomorrow.

I’m trying to rest in gratefulness that Baby Girl has chosen to stay in longer than her big brother…I know it’s what’s best for her. Not to mention, I’ve had a very healthy pregnancy thus far and no signs (knock on wood) of preeclampsia which I dealt with with Little Man.

The bright side of this time is that we are about as prepared as we can be for baby’s arrival. The nursery is ready (except for the rocking chair that hasn’t arrived yet), the freezer is stocked with food, the hospital bags are packed and our list of cleaning projects to finish is nearly complete.

On the business front, I’ve worked hard on getting some final few client meetings in this week before Baby Girl comes and I won’t be available for a while. Thank goodness for a great team of consultants who will keep trucking along while I enjoy quiet time at home after her arrival.

Hopefully my next post will be all about a beautiful baby girl entering the world in a very quick and pain-free fashion. Here’s hoping 😉

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Bueller? Bueller?

I’ve often used this throwback phrase around some younger friends. Many of whom look at me wide-eyed with confusion. Suddenly, I feel a million years old. But…I digress…

I’ve been an absentee blogger for the past few months. My sincere apologies! But let me catch you up. We survived a chaotic holiday season with lots of family visits, yummy food and Christmas gift excitement. This even included a horrid week where the entire household, starting with yours truly, caught a nasty bug. Lots of puking going on at our place for several days. I’ll tell you what, being pregnant and violently puking is no bueno.

I also completed my last wedding before Baby #2 gets here. It was on New Year’s Eve. It seemed appropriate to go out with a bang and we certainly did. It was a crazy long day (about 16 hours) made even more challenging by being 27 weeks pregnant. Let’s just say I had the worst wedding hangover I’ve ever had the next day. It was touch and go there for a while. Would I ever walk again? Only time would tell.

In other news, Baby #2 is still cooking away and we found out that IT’S A GIRL!!! This pregnancy has been completely different from Little Man in so many ways. Ways that have ultimately left me more exhausted, physically spent and mentally drained at the end of each day. I’m just very thankful that this time around the latter part of my pregnancy falls during slow season so I can really take it easy.

But, I never “take it easy”. LOL. Who has time for that? You see, with Little Man, I had zero time for “nesting” because I was in my busy season towards the end of my pregnancy and then he surprised us all by showing up 4 weeks early anyway. So, I think I’m making up for lost “nesting” this time around. I’m in full force people!

The Husband and I have decided that we will remain in our current 3 bedroom, 2 bath house for at least another year before we begin shopping for a larger home. Given the fact that we are already busting at the seams as it is with our little family of 3, I’ve been on a mad mission to make sure every nook and cranny of this house is purged, organized and as efficient as possible so that not a single shelf is wasted. I’m 29 weeks pregnant and I’ve tackled about 50% of the home organization projects I’m aiming to complete before Baby Girl gets here.

I’m really bad about taking before and after pics but I did snap these earlier this week when I spent 2 days purging and organizing our master closet. As has become practice in recent weeks, I stood and looked around at the disaster area (in this case, our master closet) and started brainstorming ideas to utilize the space better.

I’m a woman and I have purses. Many of them. I did get rid of a few but, many I really wanted to keep. But, I needed to find a better way to store them so that I could free up a VERY LARGE shelf to be used for other things. So, now every inch of wall space in our closet is being used for purse storage on command strip hangars. It looks so organized and pretty. And look at that glorious shelf that is just waiting to be used. It’s odd how good this feels!

IMG_1388

IMG_1389

There was further closet organization that happened after I snapped these pics so it looks even cleaner and better than this. But the purse storage beauty was worth showing I think.

Here’s some family love for you all to enjoy. Little Man was being very “mommy clingy” this night so there was no hope in getting him to look at the camera.

That’s all I’ve got for today. It’s way past this pregnant momma’s bedtime. I’ll be back soon. I promise.

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Double the Fun!

Where have I been, you might be wondering? Well I’ve been busy doing the bare minimum in terms of productivity on all fronts: domestic, business, wife-ing, mothering, etc.

So, why no blogging? Well that’s because I’ve been sick as a dog with baby number two!! That’s right. We are expecting again 🙂

We are thrilled!! But I did not experience this sickness and crummy feeling in the first trimester with Little Man so it’s really slowed me down these past several weeks. As I’m about to enter my 14th week, I’m really hoping that the 2nd trimester brings good sleep and a good appetite and that the sickness subsides. Here’s hoping…

Here’s our fun pregnancy announcement that we shared on social media earlier this week…

Now the truth behind this photo:

We were taking family photos and throwing in some 12 month pictures of Little Man at the same time. And when we found out we were expecting again then we had to do some sort of fun announcement so I made this cute little sign. We got him all posed and content and then he reached for a nearby acorn on the ground. Of course, it went straight into his mouth when The Husband rushed in and clawed it out!! Then, this face!! Snap, snap, click, click. It was perfect! LOL

So, that’s where I’m at right now. Hoping to feel better soon so I can start feeling like I’m a contributing member to this society again.

Until next time Mommas! 🙂

Weaning. Glorious Weaning.

Committing to breastfeeding Little Man to 1 year was huge. If I’m being honest, time has flown by. I mean, I can not believe he turns 1 in less than 2 weeks. It’s been a whirlwind of a year and I’m beyond grateful that I was blessed with the ability and time to be able to breastfeed him this long. I had to start supplementing with formula around 9.5 months old when my freezer stash ran out. But, even still, the vast majority of his liquid intake has been mommy milk and I’m proud of that accomplishment.

But, let’s be real, I’m so ready to be done. About a month ago I started to develop a love/hate relationship with nursing. It was very similar to the love/hate relationship I had with nursing in the early weeks of his life. But this time was different. I loved giving him this precious milk but nursing had grown a bit uncomfortable – 4 teeth equals nursing challenges (ouch!).

As of last week, the weaning process has begun. I am now down to nursing only in the morning when he wakes up and then pumping before I go to bed. That morning nursing session will be the last to go, but still, I’m looking forward to that first morning where I can continue sleeping while The Husband gets up and gives Little Man breakfast – I can’t even fathom what freedom I will feel on that beautiful day!

It’s been a journey. I’ve learned A LOT!!! Ultimately, I’ve determined that breastfeeding is one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done. But, I am sad to tell all of you first-time-moms-to-be, NOBODY prepares you for the challenge of breastfeeding. I did my research before Little Man was born. I read books. I read blogs. Still, breastfeeding ended up being 1000000000x harder than I expected it to be and I began to fully understand why so many women give up in those first 2-3 months (or less!). While there is no shame in formula-feeding, I do wholeheartedly believe that so many women give up too soon on breastfeeding simply because they aren’t adequately prepared for the challenge and reality of it all.

So, if you’re reading this and you are a first-time-mom-to-be, I want to encourage you: YOU CAN DO IT!! Power through those first 3 months and I promise you it gets easier. And when I say easier I mean SOOOOO MUCH EASIER!!! Between 3months and 10months old, I absolutely LOVED nursing. And, by that time, I was so close to my 1 year goal that I just pressed on even when it began to get uncomfortable.

I wish there was more honesty out there about the challenge of breastfeeding. I could go on but I don’t have all night. I have to pump and then I’m hitting the sack early!

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Baby-Free Celebrating!!!!

A working mom really welcomes any excuse to enjoy some social activities without a baby in tow. So, this past weekend, I was able to attend a Bachelorette Party for a close friend. I’m also a bridesmaid in her wedding this coming weekend. I’m talking about nearly 24 hours of FREE time to get gussied up, eat dinner and socialize with girlfriends.

Oh, what a glorious time it was!!! Major props to The Husband for being on Little Man duty from 3pm on Saturday till 2pm on Sunday. These duties included getting up and headed to church on Sunday morning with Little Man in tow all by himself…no easy task!!

The Bachelorette Party festivities included all us girls wearing our favorite little black dress and a neon-colored wig for a night out on the town. Then an all-girl slumber party in a hotel suite downtown. And things wrapped up with a relaxing yoga session on Sunday morning before we all parted ways. *throw a couple of pumping sessions into the mix*

IMG_0877

The wigs definitely got us noticed wherever we went which made the evening so much more fun. We must have had over a dozen strangers request to take a picture with us!!

IMG_0881

Good times were had by all. But, Monday brought me back to reality as the workload hit. The Husband and I are both in the wedding this weekend and we are performing a song at the ceremony – lots to prepare and get ready for Saturday. I think a mani/pedi is in order 😉

Then I have a wedding next weekend that I’m beginning to finalize details for. After my wedding on the 8th I have my longest break since my maternity leave. Just in time for Little Man’s first birthday….are you kidding me?!?!

Until next time Mommas 🙂
