Since becoming a mommy I’ve become somewhat obsessed with reading other women’s birth stories. I think it’s worth the time and energy to write down your baby’s story soon after birth to document all the happenings, details and emotions when they are fresh in your mind.
So, here is the birth story of Baby Girl!
Tuesday, March 29th
I went in for my 40 week appointment. For the first time in this entire pregnancy, I had high blood pressure. So, after getting my exam (which I hadn’t made any progress beyond my 2cm and 60%ish effaced), I was sent up to labor and delivery to get a non-stress test and submit a urine sample to test for preeclampsia. All too familiar for me since I was preeclamptic with Little Man. Fortunately, this time around, everything came back okay and I was sent home. But not before discussing a plan for induction since I was at my due date. We agreed to come back on Thursday, March 31st at 6pm for the induction. Although, I was secretly hoping Baby Girl would come on her own before then.

At 12:40am my water broke!! I had to wake up The Husband who had literally JUST fallen asleep about 10 minutes prior. We called over the in-laws to stay home with Little Man while The Husband and I headed to the hospital. Contractions started immediately and were about 3-4 minutes apart the whole way to the hospital but they weren’t super painful…just uncomfortable.
We arrived to the hospital at 2:30 and got settled in. Now, this was a stormy night and Labor & Delivery was packed full!!! Gotta love what the barometric pressure does to women to throw them all into labor at the same time. So, we got the dinky small delivery room. LOL.
The midwife on shift had her hands full. It was probably about an hour or so before she was able to come in and check me. By the time she did I was dilated to a 5 and the contractions were still about 3ish minutes apart but were increasing in intensity.
Labor progressed naturally and swiftly after that. By 5:30am the contractions were extremely intense and I knew I was in transitional labor. I asked to be checked again and she said I was a solid 9cm. Not 1 or 2 contractions later I had the urge to push.
Now, with Little Man, I pushed for TWO HOURS!!!! So, to say I was nervous to start this phase of the labor process would be an understatement. But all I can say was this midwife was AMAZING!! She gave me specific instructions on how and in what position to push to ease her out. I only had to push for 23 minutes this time! Glory, glory hallelujah!
What I was not prepared for was how big Baby Girl would be The pushing was certainly more painful this time around and when they weighed her it all made sense. 9 pounds 12 ounces!!!
Baby Girl: Sydney Joyce Scott was born at 6:31am on Thursday, March 31st
Now, The Husband likes to brag that I did an all natural labor with no epidural. He usually leads with that information any time he tells anybody about either of my births. But, all births are beautiful and every mom should be praised for the hard work and energy it takes to birth a child…drugs or no drugs!
Welcome to the world Baby Girl!
Until next time Mommas 🙂
