Baby Girl’s Birth Story

Since becoming a mommy I’ve become somewhat obsessed with reading other women’s birth stories. I think it’s worth the time and energy to write down your baby’s story soon after birth to document all the happenings, details and emotions when they are fresh in your mind.

So, here is the birth story of Baby Girl!

Tuesday, March 29th

I went in for my 40 week appointment. For the first time in this entire pregnancy, I had high blood pressure. So, after getting my exam (which I hadn’t made any progress beyond my 2cm and 60%ish effaced), I was sent up to labor and delivery to get a non-stress test and submit a urine sample to test for preeclampsia. All too familiar for me since I was preeclamptic with Little Man. Fortunately, this time around, everything came back okay and I was sent home. But not before discussing a plan for induction since I was at my due date. We agreed to come back on Thursday, March 31st at 6pm for the induction. Although, I was secretly hoping Baby Girl would come on her own before then.

Thursday, March 31st

At 12:40am my water broke!! I had to wake up The Husband who had literally JUST fallen asleep about 10 minutes prior. We called over the in-laws to stay home with Little Man while The Husband and I headed to the hospital. Contractions started immediately and were about 3-4 minutes apart the whole way to the hospital but they weren’t super painful…just uncomfortable.

We arrived to the hospital at 2:30 and got settled in. Now, this was a stormy night and Labor & Delivery was packed full!!! Gotta love what the barometric pressure does to women to throw them all into labor at the same time. So, we got the dinky small delivery room. LOL.

The midwife on shift had her hands full. It was probably about an hour or so before she was able to come in and check me. By the time she did I was dilated to a 5 and the contractions were still about 3ish minutes apart but were increasing in intensity.

Labor progressed naturally and swiftly after that. By 5:30am the contractions were extremely intense and I knew I was in transitional labor. I asked to be checked again and she said I was a solid 9cm. Not 1 or 2 contractions later I had the urge to push.

Now, with Little Man, I pushed for TWO HOURS!!!! So, to say I was nervous to start this phase of the labor process would be an understatement. But all I can say was this midwife was AMAZING!! She gave me specific instructions on how and in what position to push to ease her out. I only had to push for 23 minutes this time! Glory, glory hallelujah!

What I was not prepared for was how big Baby Girl would be :-/ The pushing was certainly more painful this time around and when they weighed her it all made sense. 9 pounds 12 ounces!!!

Baby Girl: Sydney Joyce Scott was born at 6:31am on Thursday, March 31st

Now, The Husband likes to brag that I did an all natural labor with no epidural. He usually leads with that information any time he tells anybody about either of my births. But, all births are beautiful and every mom should be praised for the hard work and energy it takes to birth a child…drugs or no drugs!

The Waiting Game

First and foremost, YES, I am still pregnant. 6 days from my due date and time is moving at a snail’s pace. But…I digress…

I’ve decided to try and find the joy in these last few days of Little Man being an only child. As exhausting as it is getting out and about, I’m trying to do special things with him daily: mommy and son dates, if you will 🙂 Plus, the more I can walk around and let gravity do it’s thing, the better!

I took him to the aquarium for his first visit earlier this week. He wasn’t too enamored with anything in particular. I mainly just let him wander around at his own leisure and I followed closely behind. He was, albeit briefly, interested in the sharks OR it was simply the fact that I set his snack bowl on the tank ledge so that he’d have to walk over there to grab it. Regardless, I was certain to snap a picture.

We may be excited to welcome Baby Girl to the family but this Little Man will always be the one who made me a momma.

Here’s to the next chapter….

Until next time Mommas 🙂

This Just In…

The rumors you’ve heard are true. I can confirm that I am, indeed, STILL pregnant! Ugh! 38 weeks and more exhausted and the most uncomfortable I’ve been in my entire life.

For all my fellow Friends fanatics…this about sums it up….

You see, Little Man arrived at 36 weeks so I never got the pleasure of experiencing the last month of pregnancy that I had heard so many women complain about. Well, this time around, I’m in the thick of it. The complete 60-70%-effaced-and-1cm-dilated thick of it. Yes, that’s where my doc told me I was at may appointment 6 days ago. Let’s hope I’ve progressed a bit more when I go to the doc tomorrow.

I’m trying to rest in gratefulness that Baby Girl has chosen to stay in longer than her big brother…I know it’s what’s best for her. Not to mention, I’ve had a very healthy pregnancy thus far and no signs (knock on wood) of preeclampsia which I dealt with with Little Man.

The bright side of this time is that we are about as prepared as we can be for baby’s arrival. The nursery is ready (except for the rocking chair that hasn’t arrived yet), the freezer is stocked with food, the hospital bags are packed and our list of cleaning projects to finish is nearly complete.

On the business front, I’ve worked hard on getting some final few client meetings in this week before Baby Girl comes and I won’t be available for a while. Thank goodness for a great team of consultants who will keep trucking along while I enjoy quiet time at home after her arrival.

Hopefully my next post will be all about a beautiful baby girl entering the world in a very quick and pain-free fashion. Here’s hoping 😉

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Pregnancy Wishes and Chocolate Dreams

I may be 34 weeks pregnant and I may be using that as an excuse to polish off the chocolate cake left on my kitchen counter.

Thanks to some lovely ladies at my church, I had a baby “sprinkle” last week with some of my close girlfriends and church ladies. One of the hostesses, Becca, made a super yummy chocolate cake. BTW, “super yummy” doesn’t do this cake justice. No, this isn’t the pregnancy talking. This is seriously the most amazing chocolate cake I’ve ever had. Several other attendees agreed with my sentiments.

The unfortunate, yet fortunate, thing was that there were many slices left over and, of course, they got sent home with me. And I might have gotten up in the middle of the night 2 nights ago and had a slice with a glass of milk at like 4am. :-/

I have 2 slices left and I’m certain they will be polished off today. I’ll spare you the gory details of exactly how many slices I’ve consumed in the past 5 days.

If you’re interested in the recipe you can find it here!!! Now I just need an excuse to make this cake myself. I mean, The Husband doesn’t like sweets but maybe President’s Day is reason enough to celebrate.  You think?

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Adventures in Organizing

I’m an organizing machine these days. I’ve tackled just about every major organization project I had on my list and OH MY GOODNESS have we purged A LOT of stuff over the past several weeks. In addition to purging, we’ve finally started taking advantage of our attic space that we rarely used before.

In the midst of all this cleaning, purging and organizing I’ve started to really take notice of ways to make my life more efficient. Being a busy mompreneur means I don’t have time to waste digging through a messy closet to find something or walking from one end of the house to another for the 47th time to get something. So, here’s some of my organization/home efficiency tips…

  1. Take advantage of every available space! Is there room under your bed to fit anything? Think storing vertically…not just horizontally! Think about utilizing backs of doors for additional storage or stacking storage bins.
  2. Speaking of…storage bins are a gift from Heaven above! They are affordable and declutter any space in an instant.
  3. Command hooks are a woman’s best friend! I hate hammering nails into the walls and even more so when The Husband is not home to help me. But I can manage a command hook all by myself and there’s no damage done to the walls in the process.
  4. Keep a stash of basic cleaning supplies stored in every bathroom and under the kitchen sink. This is something I’ve done for years now. Both of our bathrooms have clorox wipes, toilet bowl cleaner and a toilet brush on hand. This makes for quick and easy cleaning when you notice things are getting out of control. No running back and forth through the house to grab the cleaning products when you need to clean.

Now that the organizing is nearly done we are moving on to some deep cleaning projects. I hate deep cleaning. Hate. It.

Did I mention we are also in the midst of trying to complete Baby Girl’s nursery? When it rains, it pours.

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Bueller? Bueller?

I’ve often used this throwback phrase around some younger friends. Many of whom look at me wide-eyed with confusion. Suddenly, I feel a million years old. But…I digress…

I’ve been an absentee blogger for the past few months. My sincere apologies! But let me catch you up. We survived a chaotic holiday season with lots of family visits, yummy food and Christmas gift excitement. This even included a horrid week where the entire household, starting with yours truly, caught a nasty bug. Lots of puking going on at our place for several days. I’ll tell you what, being pregnant and violently puking is no bueno.

I also completed my last wedding before Baby #2 gets here. It was on New Year’s Eve. It seemed appropriate to go out with a bang and we certainly did. It was a crazy long day (about 16 hours) made even more challenging by being 27 weeks pregnant. Let’s just say I had the worst wedding hangover I’ve ever had the next day. It was touch and go there for a while. Would I ever walk again? Only time would tell.

In other news, Baby #2 is still cooking away and we found out that IT’S A GIRL!!! This pregnancy has been completely different from Little Man in so many ways. Ways that have ultimately left me more exhausted, physically spent and mentally drained at the end of each day. I’m just very thankful that this time around the latter part of my pregnancy falls during slow season so I can really take it easy.

But, I never “take it easy”. LOL. Who has time for that? You see, with Little Man, I had zero time for “nesting” because I was in my busy season towards the end of my pregnancy and then he surprised us all by showing up 4 weeks early anyway. So, I think I’m making up for lost “nesting” this time around. I’m in full force people!

The Husband and I have decided that we will remain in our current 3 bedroom, 2 bath house for at least another year before we begin shopping for a larger home. Given the fact that we are already busting at the seams as it is with our little family of 3, I’ve been on a mad mission to make sure every nook and cranny of this house is purged, organized and as efficient as possible so that not a single shelf is wasted. I’m 29 weeks pregnant and I’ve tackled about 50% of the home organization projects I’m aiming to complete before Baby Girl gets here.

I’m really bad about taking before and after pics but I did snap these earlier this week when I spent 2 days purging and organizing our master closet. As has become practice in recent weeks, I stood and looked around at the disaster area (in this case, our master closet) and started brainstorming ideas to utilize the space better.

I’m a woman and I have purses. Many of them. I did get rid of a few but, many I really wanted to keep. But, I needed to find a better way to store them so that I could free up a VERY LARGE shelf to be used for other things. So, now every inch of wall space in our closet is being used for purse storage on command strip hangars. It looks so organized and pretty. And look at that glorious shelf that is just waiting to be used. It’s odd how good this feels!

There was further closet organization that happened after I snapped these pics so it looks even cleaner and better than this. But the purse storage beauty was worth showing I think.

Here’s some family love for you all to enjoy. Little Man was being very “mommy clingy” this night so there was no hope in getting him to look at the camera.

That’s all I’ve got for today. It’s way past this pregnant momma’s bedtime. I’ll be back soon. I promise.

Until next time Mommas 🙂

Double the Fun!

Where have I been, you might be wondering? Well I’ve been busy doing the bare minimum in terms of productivity on all fronts: domestic, business, wife-ing, mothering, etc.

So, why no blogging? Well that’s because I’ve been sick as a dog with baby number two!! That’s right. We are expecting again 🙂

We are thrilled!! But I did not experience this sickness and crummy feeling in the first trimester with Little Man so it’s really slowed me down these past several weeks. As I’m about to enter my 14th week, I’m really hoping that the 2nd trimester brings good sleep and a good appetite and that the sickness subsides. Here’s hoping…

Here’s our fun pregnancy announcement that we shared on social media earlier this week…

Now the truth behind this photo:

We were taking family photos and throwing in some 12 month pictures of Little Man at the same time. And when we found out we were expecting again then we had to do some sort of fun announcement so I made this cute little sign. We got him all posed and content and then he reached for a nearby acorn on the ground. Of course, it went straight into his mouth when The Husband rushed in and clawed it out!! Then, this face!! Snap, snap, click, click. It was perfect! LOL

So, that’s where I’m at right now. Hoping to feel better soon so I can start feeling like I’m a contributing member to this society again.

Until next time Mommas! 🙂
